Back to the Vercors

Back to St Nazaire in Sep 2006, this time with PJ. For sheer cycling enjoyment, this is just great, particularly as I'd adjusted my bike so my knee wasn't in attritional agony at the end of every ride. Top story of the week belongs Roger and his story about the unblemished Khazakstani girl who said to him : "my name means Peace and Tranquility, what does your name mean?". Top moment of the week also belongs to Roger, reminding us all why we should wear gloves when cycling. Thanks Roger.

Breakfast at the Priory .....Hmm, I have a strange urge to shove a croissant down my neck. Posted by Picasa

Ready for the down ..... Posted by Picasa

Phil was already thinking about the route to the next Boulangerie. Posted by Picasa

I hope those clouds lift soon. Posted by Picasa

A moody day in the gorge. Posted by Picasa

Smiling and grimacing ... there is a long way to go from here and it isn't getting any warmer. Posted by Picasa

Not the worst way to spend a week. Posted by Picasa

The mime artist tried to attract their attention, but Roger and Phil were engrossed in their menus. Posted by Picasa

Surprisingly, we found somewhere to serve us lunch in Autrans. Posted by Picasa

The main parade in Autrans ...... strangely empty. Posted by Picasa

Lovely little fountain in Autrans - about the only thing that was working there at the time. Posted by Picasa

Right, what's for dessert ? Posted by Picasa

The final seconds in the short existence of a banana split. Posted by Picasa

A view from the top. Posted by Picasa

Before we enjoy the, truly spectacular, views from La Moliere, let's just stop for a moment and have a quiet chuckle to ourselves about how utterly knackered Roger was when he got here. Finished ? Right , let's look at the views ..... Posted by Picasa

More views from La Moliere. Posted by Picasa

View of Mont Blanc from La Moliere. It's not the big grey thing, it's the white thing to the left and behind the big grey thing. Posted by Picasa

La Moliere and surrounding views. Not half bad and well worth the ascent. Posted by Picasa

The finalists in the 2006 Lycra-Loser pageant (not sponsored by Rapha, Assos or Richmond Park) waited anxiously for the result. Posted by Picasa

This photo contains Roger in a rare un-punctured moment. Posted by Picasa

One additional fact .... that 8.1 KM to Presles is downhill all the way. Wuhu. Posted by Picasa

OK - hands up everyone who really enjoyed that climb up to La Moliere. Posted by Picasa

The beauty of being at the top of long descent on a clear road in the sun is spoiled only by my hopeless photography. Posted by Picasa

Now where's Roger ? Is that him sliding down the hill ? Posted by Picasa
